The
village benefits from a state of the art escalator
which connects the top of the village with the bottom. At the top
is the Galerie Marchande with various shops, bars and restaurants.
There is another similar development around the main lift station
at the bottom, again with shops, bars, restaurants, etc. The escalator
connects the two and allows people at the top of the village to
travel easily down to the lift station and back again. |

| Skiing
(3300m-1100m and 770 snow cannons!)
|
This is a snow-sure ski resort
with both the altitude and snow cannons to ensure good skiing
all through the season.
Being part of the Alpe d'Huez ski domain gives Vaujany the
unique advantages of a village resort with world class skiing
and a lift system to match. The 160 person cable car takes
you in two stages up to 2800m from where it is a short step
to the Pic Blanc cable car and 3300m. In addition to the cable
car there is a gondola out of Vaujany with access to Vaujany's
own appealing ski area at Montfrais.
The extent and variety of well groomed pistes
will keep all standards of skiers happy and include some of
the longest runs in the world, |
 |
one starting from the point of Pic Blanc at 3300 m gives a
massive overall vertical drop of 2200 m all the way to the
hamlet of L'Enversin d'Oz.
Skiers with a taste for the back country will
be exhilarated by the easily accessed off piste terrain.
All of it, especially the glacial itineraries, must be
tackled with a professional guide. Ours, Anthony Franklin,
led us to some superb open powder slopes with options of narrow
gulleys from the top of the Sarenne glacier. We ended up in
a gorge requiring a helicopter lift back to the lift network.

Summer
Activities
The swimming pool and sports complex has a 25m indoor heated
swimming pool with water slide, sports hall, gymnasium, sauna,
jacuzzi and steam room. Vaujany's 160-person cable car runs
six times a day during July and August giving access at the
first station to spectacular walks and mountain-biking beside
lakes and meadows brimming with wild flowers or higher up
where there is often snow still lying at 2800metres.
Down in the village there is a wonderful tennis
club where, having trounced the competition, you can relax
with drink in hand on the terrace, take your lunch under the
parasols and let your children enjoy the playground. If you
feel adventurous this is the place to sign up for your first
tandem paragliding flight. |
 |
Within an hours drive there
is also boating, river rafting, canoeing and mountaineering
in the Parc des Ecrins. The possibilities are endless and
you will never feel a lack of space. You will feast on the
delicious mountain air and sensational blue skies.

Childcare
Services
Vaujany also has a superb day nursery taking children from 6
months to 5 years old inclusive and an excellent children's
activity club offering all the local activities from rock climbing
on the artificial climbing wall to archery up at the tennis
club. |
Ski Kindergarten/Ski School and Garderie
Day Nursery
Children 4 and 5 years old
Open 9.30am - 5pm
For lively 4 and 5 year olds there are tailor-made
packages of activities provided by Vaujany's small, friendly
ski school (ESF). In the morning, children can find their
ski legs at the ski kindergarten and after a supervised lunch
spend the afternoon having more fun in the Garderie day nursery.
Ski school starts at approximately
9.30am when ski school instructors meet children at the main
lift station in Vaujany and accompany them up to the ski kindergarten
at Montfrais. After a lunch stop at the mountain restaurant
all 4 year olds and any 5 year old beginners are accompanied
back to the day nursery for an afternoon of games and activities
until 5pm.
For those who are new to skiing, the Jardin
de Neige (ski kindergarten) at Montfrais near to the top of
the gondola has a special nursery ski lift and some pretend
animals. Children are gently introduced to snow by simply
walking on their skis, tobogganing or skiing down the short
nursery slopes. |
|
Day Nursery
Children 6 months - 5 years
old
Open 9am - 5pm
The well-run local village nursery has established an excellent
reputation and is exceptionally good value. It is purpose-built
with three separate playrooms, a dormitory for the babies,
a terrace, a ball-park and TV room. The children are well
occupied with painting, drawing, singing sessions and general
play.
Throughout the Winter season Ski Peak employs it’s own
English speaking snow nanny specifically to look after the
Ski Peak children on 5 days out of 6 as the regular staff
are French and only speak a little English. Situated near
the main lift station, it's also handy for dropping off and
picking up on your way to and from the slopes.
